Usain Bolt and his Scoliosis
It’s hard to believe that the fastest man on earth has scoliosis! Olympian Usain Bolt was born with scoliosis, curving his spine to the right and making his right leg half an inch shorter than his left.
It’s been said that Bolt has adjusted his stride to accommodate the effects of his scoliosis.
In the Dec. 12, 2011 issue of ESPN The Magazine, Bolt describes how scoliosis affects his training:
“When I was younger it wasn’t really a problem. But you grow and it gets worse. My spines really curved bad. But if I keep my core and back strong, the scoliosis does not really bother me. So, I don’t have to worry about it as long as I work hard. The early part of my career, when we did not really know much about it, it really hampered me because I got injured every year.”
Usain Bolt is an Olympic gold medalist and is a testament to show that even with a scoliosis you can still achieve your dreams.
